Corten "weathering steel" Philadelphia P.A.

Anderson Iron works fabricated a number of large cor-ten planters and signs  for the Chestnut Hill Hotel and Market. Cor-ten is becoming a very popular ornamental material choice. Our client choose not to rush the weathering process. It will take approx. 6 months to a year for the steel to reach its  final rusted patina. We are in the beginning process of fabricating a large cor-ten gate for the same project. stay tuned...

Here is a little info on Cor-ten the "Weathering steel"  due to their chemical compositions, these steels exhibit increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion compared to other steels. This is because the steel forms a protective layer on its surface under the influence of the weather.
The corrosion-retarding effect of the protective layer is produced by the particular distribution and concentration of alloying elements in it. The layer protecting the surface develops and regenerates continuously when subjected to the influence of the weather. In other words, the steel is allowed to rust in order to form the 'protective' coating.
